Archive note: This first-person article by Eric Medlin was originally published by Lincoln County Social on April 25, 2022. It has been restored from the site's source-code archive and lightly edited for privacy, clarity and current editorial standards. It reflects Medlin's account and opinions at that time; it is not current reporting and does not establish that any person committed a crime.

On April 19, 2022, I went to court over the truancy-related complaint described in Part 1. Before the hearing, I spoke with the district attorney and presented the enrollment material I had retained. The arraignment was postponed.

The case was dismissed

Over the following days, I contacted lawyers, public officials, friends and family while preparing to defend the case. A court document retained with the original article is titled Order to Dismiss With Prejudice and identifies the State of Nevada as plaintiff and Eric J. Medlin as defendant.

The retained image does not include the complete docket or an explanation of the court's reasoning. This restored article therefore states the disposition shown by the document without speculating about why the dismissal was entered.

Report to the Sheriff's Office

On April 22, I submitted a written statement to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office alleging that the school administrator had filed a false report and committed perjury. In the original article, I asked law enforcement to investigate and said I was willing to provide evidence and testimony.

Submitting a report does not prove that a crime occurred, that law enforcement opened an investigation or that the allegations were substantiated. The original Chapter 2 headline asked whether Marty Soderborg was under investigation, but the recovered source files do not establish that an investigation existed. This restoration does not repeat that suggestion as fact.

Why this archive is being restored

The purpose of restoring these chapters is to preserve what Lincoln County Social published in 2022 while clearly separating documents, personal recollections and opinions. The archive establishes that the articles existed, that Medlin disputed the complaint, that a retained order is labeled as a dismissal with prejudice and that Medlin later submitted a statement to the Sheriff's Office. It does not establish criminal wrongdoing by the person Medlin accused.
