BLM announces approval to close 47 mine hazards near Delamar and Helene
The federal notice addresses abandoned-mine safety hazards in Lincoln County; it does not establish that field work is finished.
The Bureau of Land Management announced approval for permanent closure of 47 abandoned-mine hazards around Delamar and Helene in an April 28, 2026, public notice.
BLM described the sites as potential public-safety risks. It said the Nevada Division of Minerals, BLM and the Nevada Department of Wildlife had worked together to survey the hazards and select closure methods intended to cause minimal disturbance.
Approval is not a completion notice
The announcement does not establish that all closures are finished. It should not be read as an assurance that mine openings, old workings or the surrounding terrain are safe to enter.
The notice links to the Delamar Abandoned Mine Land Closures project record and lists the Caliente Field Office geologist at 775-251-5250 for project questions.
