Lincoln County urges residents and businesses to register for CodeRED alerts

Lincoln County encourages residents and businesses to register their contact information for CodeRED emergency notifications, especially if they use cell phones or unlisted numbers.

The county says CodeRED can deliver recorded telephone messages to targeted locations or the county as a whole, depending on the emergency. Possible uses include fires, evacuations, chemical spills, downed power lines, missing people, natural disasters and water-system problems.

Registration is free through the portal linked from the county's official CodeRED page. Residents and businesses can add home, business and mobile telephone information. The county says registration information is confidential and used for emergency notifications.

The county warns that people who do not register their address and telephone number may not receive a CodeRED message during an emergency. Registration improves the county's ability to reach participants, but it should not replace calling 911 during an emergency or maintaining a personal preparedness plan.
