Lincoln County Victim/Witness Services offers free advocacy and court support

Lincoln County residents who are victims or witnesses of violent crime—or community members with questions—can contact Victim/Witness Services for free advocacy and justice-system support.

The official county page says advocates provide criminal-justice information, case monitoring, accompaniment to court or meetings with law enforcement and prosecutors, and help applying for county or state victim-compensation programs. The program can also help locate resources, assist with emergency-shelter referrals, serve as a liaison with prosecutors or law enforcement and provide information related to child-welfare systems.

There is no charge for assistance. The county says trained advocates can speak with victims or witnesses by telephone or meet in a safe, confidential place. Assistance with an application or referral does not guarantee compensation, shelter availability, legal representation or a particular case outcome.

For Lincoln County questions, the program lists 1-800-372-7202 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Its main telephone number is 775-289-3410, and the county page lists 775-296-1633 for the program director and advocate at any time. The public email address is vws@sbcglobal.net. The program office is in Ely and serves Lincoln County along with other regional communities.

Victim/Witness Services is not a substitute for emergency response. Anyone in immediate danger should call 911. Residents should avoid sending sensitive case details by email unless the program confirms that the channel is appropriate.
