Nevada RESEP offers no-cost screenings with periodic Caliente clinics

Nevada's Radiation Exposure Screening and Education Program offers no-cost medical screenings and education to eligible people affected by nuclear weapons testing. UNLV says screenings are held periodically in Caliente, as well as monthly in Las Vegas and periodically in Ely and Winnemucca.

The program lists Lincoln County among the Nevada counties included in its downwinder eligibility area. Eligibility is not based on current or past county residence alone: applicants must have qualifying direct ties to aboveground nuclear testing, such as work connected to a test site or uranium operation, or qualifying presence as a resident or worker in an affected area during a covered exposure period. Nevada RESEP determines eligibility.

UNLV says services can include a physician examination, blood work, a urine dip test, chest X-ray, fecal occult blood test, preventive-health education, a summary and copy of exam results, and referral services. The specific screening plan depends on the program's assessment and is not a promise of diagnosis, treatment or a particular health outcome.
